Phil has been The FA’s Head of Public Affairs since December 2003, and is responsible for policy, public affairs and stakeholder relations. This includes working with the UK Government and its various departments, on issues varying from the professional game such as spectator safety and security, to challenges facing the amateur game such as sport in schools.

 

He also manages The FA’s relationships with other sporting and Government organisations such as the Premier League, Sport England, the British Olympic Association, and the Royal Household, and acts as an adviser and speechwriter to the Chairman and Chief Executive.

Having been involved in amateur football for many years as a player and volunteer, his professional career started with The FA in 1996 as the General Secretary of the County FA in Manchester. In the professional game his loyalties are with the blue half of Manchester.
