Gabriel, Michael
- Michael Gabriel finished his university career in Frankfurt with a degree in sports studies. In 1992 he started working at the independent Fan-Project in Frankfurt, which was organising educational and cultural work with the young hard-core football fans of Eintracht Frankfurt. At the same time Michael gained another degree in detached youth work, a specialist field of Social Work, in Germany.
In 1996 he joined the Fan-Project Coordination Centre (KOS), where he was responsible for concepts of fanwork at international tournaments. Due to it’s long-term experience in this field in 2006 KOS was asked by the FIFA World-Cup Organising Committee to organise the official “Fan and Visitor Programme” in all 12 host cities. After the World-Cup 2006 Michael Gabriel became director of the KOS.
His “second” career he started as a youth player for Eintracht Frankfurt, where he won two German Championships with the U16 and the U18. He was then selected for the Austrian U20 which took part at the FIFA U20 World Cup in Mexico 1983. In Frankfurt he played in the third Division at different clubs before he finished his career at the age of 28 because of injuries.
