Gregory, Maxine
Research Fellow, Sport Industry Research Centre (SIRC), Sheffield Hallam University
- Maxine has a first class BSc (Hons) degree and an MA with distinction from Sheffield Hallam University. She has been involved in a range of projects spanning the sport, countryside and art sectors since commencing work for SIRC in 2003.
A key strand of Maxine's research has been the monitoring and evaluation of community sport initiatives. This has included the Northern Ireland Community Sports Programme, which provided a hybrid of quantitative and qualitative data collection techniques in order to uncover the key success factors of community sports development work, and the Coalfield Regeneration Trust's 'Sport Legacy' project which assessed the impact and value for money of a range of different models of sports development. Maxine is currently working for Sport England providing monitoring and evaluation for the 'Everyday Swim' pilot project and managing an evaluation of the 'Extended Activities' project. The evaluative approach utilised has incorporated 'action research' and the design of innovative methods for data capture, particularly amongst young people.
SIRC has substantial experience in providing economic impact assessments of major sporting events, including the London Marathon, Wimbledon, Tour de France and World Rally Championships. Maxine has been involved in the data collection and report writing for most of these events during the past 5 years. Maxine has up-to-date skills relating to both quantitative and qualitative research methods, including interviewing, computer aided data analysis, data manipulation and statistical modelling.
